“Stop Reading This Book!” by Caroline Fernandez is an interactive children’s story, told from the book itself. When I started reading this book, the book immediately tried to stop me from reading anymore. The book was telling me a lot of things that I could be doing instead of reading, like folding underwear! I kept reading though, and the book seemed a little upset. It thought maybe heroes would scare me, because it thought that I was a bad guy. I looked at the picture of the heroes and wasn’t scared at all. Then the book tried to get me to turn the wrong page to go backwards in the book instead of forward. It also sent a note to my mom who was reading the story to me to get her to stop reading. Then there was a page with words upside down and written kind of hard to read. Next, there was a picture of villains, which didn’t scare me either. I had to solve a problem for the heroes and then make my way through a maze on the next pages. Finally, the book realized I am not a bad guy and let me finish reading. I liked being able to prove the book wrong and show how brave I am by looking at the pictures and not getting scared, like the book wanted me to. I really liked this book and think that lots of other kids will like it too.

A Note from Mom: “Stop Reading This Book!” is another fun, interactive book on the shelves these days. We have a few other books like this one, as in they have you perform tasks on the pages (i.e. shake it or rub the page, etc.), but this one is a little different in that the main task isn’t about what you can do physically to the book, but more-so your behavior and being able to act correctly in order to gain the privilege of continuing through the book’s pages. At the end of the book is a list of some of the words in the story to help your young reader learn more words to increase their vocabulary.
