After reading the first Guinevere book by Cheryl Carpinello, I was looking forward to seeing what adventures the second book would hold.  Guinevere and Cedwyn are in over their heads again in another dangerous plan to save the children of Cadbury Castle from renegade thieves. But their new adventure does not turn out like they planned.

“Guinevere: At the Dawn of Legend” by Cheryl Carpinello is a great adventure story about two friends trying to do the right thing. I liked how Cedwyn was such a devoted friend to Guinevere, no matter what they faced, they did it together. I also enjoyed how I could imagine where the story was taking place and what the characters looked like with the author’s style of writing. I don’t think Cedwyn and Guinevere thought that by going to the wizard’s stones that everything that followed would be so terrible. Even though it could change the future you kinda wished Merlin could have told them what was going to happen, it would have saved a lot of lives, and Cedwyn could have avoided what he has to face now.

My favorite part was when Cedwyn was trying to free the children without the thieves seeing them. I would have hated to be in that situation, it would be really scary to be so far from your parents, not knowing what was going to happen to you.

I think Guinevere’s father should have handled rescuing the children better. I bet if it was his daughter that went missing, he would do anything to get her back safely to him. It just seemed like everyone was going in different directions and they would have been better off if they had stayed together.

I can’t wait to find out what happens to Cedwyn and the children in the next book. The best part of starting another book is finding out what brilliant plan Guinevere will come up with to save Cedwyn, even though he is the one who is supposed to be protecting her. “Guinevere: At the Dawn of Legend,” by Cheryl Carpinello is a great story for middle-school ages and up. My mom is using this series for our homeschool book report requirements, which I am very happy to read.
