“The Trouble with Chickens” by Doreen Cronin is hilarious.  J.J. was a hero search-and-rescue dog who is now retired.  He thought his retirement on a farm would be quiet, but it wasn’t!  When the chicken Moosh asked J.J. to help find her lost babies he didn’t want to, but he ended up doing it anyway.  It turns out that J.J.’s biggest problem wasn’t finding the chicks Sweetie and Poppy.  His big problem was Vince the Funnel.

Vince the Funnel looked like a cross between a dachshund and a lamp.  He wore a big plastic thing that buttoned over his neck and stuck out over his head to keep him from scratching his ears.  It looked like a funnel.  Vince the Funnel was mean and tricky.  You will have to read the book to find out what happens to the chicks and J.J., but I will tell you that it is funny.

The pictures in the book are pretty funny but they are just black and white and not on every single page.  This is really a chapter book but is pretty fast to read (especially with help from a grown-up).

I will tell all of my friends that they should read “The Trouble with Chickens.”
