“Mittens wants to help Nick. Nick paints, Mittens paints, it doesn’t help. ‘You are not helping kitty cat,’ says Nick. He puts up a spooky cobweb and it falls down on the kitty cat. He makes cookies. Mittens gets dirty. He runs away and licks, licks, licks. Lots of licking. He still wants to help. He hangs up a ghost but it’s not spooky. Mittens makes it spooky by scratches. Scratch, scratch, scratch, scratch. He helped!”
“I liked mittens. I liked the story. I loved it all. My favorite part was when the cat tried to paint and then made the ghost spooky.”
“Kitty, Kitty. He almost fell down. He gets wet. He scratches. Scratch, scratch, scratch. He spills it. He is messy. He spilled the cookies. Ghost Scary.”
“Happy Halloween, Mittens” is a cute and adorable story of a little kitten who just wants to be part of the holiday fun! Full of fall festivities, the book is about Mittens, a little kitten who wants to help but ends up making a mess. In the end, Mittens finds a way to help and everyone is happy. The illustrations in this book are wonderful. They help bring the story to life for young readers. As part of the “My First Reading” collection, I think they did a great job with making the story entertaining for younger children. My 2-year-old rarely sits through a book and she sat still for the entire book! I would suggest this book for children ages 2-6.
