“Did you know the ‘Chair for My Mother’ was the first one and this is the second?”

“I liked this book. My favorite part of this book was when Rosa’s aunt had the baby. I liked it when Rosa’s mom said, “I love you best of all and you say crazy things.” Her name is Rosa – that’s why she wants to keep the chair because it has roses all over it. I learned that we should keep the old chair because it’s more special than a new one.”

Parent’s Note:

Grayce had previously read a “Chair for My Mother” in her pre-school and immediately made the connection between the two books. The illustrations in “A Chair for Always” by Vera B. Williams were beautifully rendered and the story held Grayce’s attention most of the time. Occasionally, when there was a lot of text and only pencil (not color sketches) she didn’t seem quite as engaged.
