Love, Love, Love this book!!
"303 Preschooler - Approved Exercises + Games" by Kimberly Wechsler was written so well that each and every exercise listed is easy to understand and easy to follow. Each one of them has some sort of physical and/or mental stimuli for the child and if done with parent involvement it helps the two form a bond that helps the two embrace a sense of connection and love between themselves. I could not stop smiling when doing them with my grandchild who is a little over 2 years old. It was such a joy to participate in doing these activities with her. Although this book states that is was written for children 3-5 years of age my granddaughter had no problem following all of the ones I helped her do.
Our favorite game was #129 - Cotton Tail - "This game teaches children to use their toes in a whole new way. You will need a bag full of cotton balls to scatter around the floor. You can also use marbles. Tell the children: Try to pick up a cotton ball using only your toes."
The author did a fantastic job of laying this book out in a format that gives you several ways of looking up games. In the front of the book, there is a list of games using a chart that lets the parent choose an activity by "Whole Group, Any Size, Small Groups, Pairs." In the back of the book they are all listed in "Alphabetical Order, List of Games Arranged by Specific Categories, Games in which Physical Contact Might Be Involved, Games Requiring an Exercise Mat, Games Requiring Props, Games Requiring Musical Accompaniment." This book also breaks down each section into age appropriate levels. The author could not make this book any more easy to use than she did.
I believe “303 Preschooler - Approved Exercises + Games” by Kimberly Wechsler would be wonderful for preschool teachers or daycares. It is also a great help in keeping more than one child entertained because there are a lot of games that involve two or more children. Because of the high rate of childhood obesity it is in the child's best interest to become active as early in life as possible and this book helps a parent do that in fun and inventive ways.
