When I first picked up “Primeval Origins: Paths of Anguish” by Brett Vonsik it reminded me of those old caveman-dinosaur movies that used to come out when I was much younger, especially the cover. However, if you look at the cover more carefully, you will realize that the story is not about cavemen but more about some kind of knight on a dinosaur fighting a carnivore, instead of fighting a dragon on a white stallion. Needless to say it got my attention. As I read the beginning, my intrigue grew, as I discovered the parallel stories of Nikki, an archeologist working on her PhD, and Rogaan a young warrior from a lost ancient civilization.
I found Brett Vonsik’s creativity fascinating as he made history, ancient alien theories, and medieval legend elements come to life through his unique story-telling skills and fast pace thrilling plot. I also found the plot to be a breath of fresh fantasy, very much needed to cast off all the vampire spins readers have been victimized with of late. Although the good against evil fight is nothing new, Vonsik did an excellent job painting a new story to carry this old struggle. The character development was impressive as he paired up two characters from different times, sexes, and ages into the same world and struggle. The dialogues felt natural and convincing, something very difficult to do in such different settings. I am sure that Vonsik will not be short of fans with his crisp, credible, captivating writing style, and am actually already signing up for the continuation of this adventure in the second book of the series. My only complaint is maybe a little better binding, as my pages loosened up as I kept turning the pages, and maybe a cover that will be captivating to older crowds as I believe, this series to be not just for younger readers.
"Primeval Origins: Paths of Anguish” by Brett Vonsik is an epic journey to the origin of mankind in our struggle against evil. It is a page turner sure to thrill young and older readers for sure! I definitely recommend it is an awesome read!
