When reading “Stuck in the Doldrums: A Lesson in Sharing” by Carole P. Roman, Miles really loved Captain No Beard. Since the first one that we read, he has fallen in love! Mommy loves the morals and that they teach a lesson in a really fun way.
While the ship was docked for some play time in the sand, Captain No Beard wanted to use his captain power and demand that his crew give him the toys they were playing with. He did this by insisting, since he was the captain, he had the right to demand what he wanted and they must comply. After Captain No Beard messes up their sand castle, they moved on to another area to play. They did not think it was fun anymore.
Captain realizes that he cannot pull the anchor and steer the ship by himself. He needs his crew. He begins yelling for help. The crew was not pleased at all with Captain No Beard because of the way he was treating them. So they decided to ignore him and his calls for help.
Captain No Beard finds out that being bossy doesn’t get him anywhere. It hurts his friends and makes others upset and not want to play with him. By the end of the story, Captain No Beard has learned his lesson and apologized and resumed playing with his ship-mates.
Miles was very excited about the pirate ship. He is really into pirates right now. Slowly he is learning to share with others. “Stuck in the Doldrums: A Lesson in Sharing” is another excellent book by Carole P. Roman! We cannot wait to get our hands on another Captain No Beard book.
