“Yumi” is about two kokeshi dolls – Yumi and her best friend, Sakumi, and Sakumi’s puppy, Bamboo. This book is really neat because Yumi is sewn onto the cover. She comes from Japan. On one page, Yumi is a large map and she has a pretty kimono collection. Bamboo is hiding on one page and you get to find him. The entire book has surprises in it, like kites blowing in the wind and little flaps in pages that uncover things about Yumi’s world, and little holes reveal hidden secrets. I love the illustrations. It’s a beautiful book, a lot like art. You also get to learn Japanese, like ‘Arigato’ means ‘Thank You.’ I would recommend “Yumi” by Annelore Parot for girls my age and people who like art. It’s a very detailed book.
