“Spartanica” by Powers Molinar is a science fiction novel for early teens. Right from the start, the title captured me and so did the cover. The main characters are Ty and Marcus, who are brothers born in the same year - but they are not twins. These brothers are so colorful, each in their own way and they both get on each other’s nerves for difference reasons, as most siblings do. Marcus thinks that Ty is overdramatic about everything and his imagination is out of control. When the brothers find themselves in a different realm, they begin to wonder if this is all a bad dream or if they are really in trouble. This science fiction novel takes off right away!

While Ty and Marcus are trying to find their way home or at least back out of this dream, they run into some rather amazing supporting characters in an another world, with danger lurking and not really knowing exactly what to do.

Both of the characters are well developed and are so believable. I could not like one over the other because they were both awesome personalities; they reminded me of my sister and me, bickering and fighting over silly stuff.

I happen to love science fiction and the world that Molinar has created fits perfectly into the genre. The distance between a dream and reality is so hard to determine in this book, it kept me moving right through the pages wanting to know what was going to happen next.

When it comes down to it, I can see myself giving this book as a gift to several of my friends, I loved it that much. I am glad I had the chance to review “Spartanica” by Powers Molinar and I CANNOT wait to get my hands on book two. The ending surely left me hanging on a cliff so I hope book two gets done rather quickly, the anticipation is killing me.
