“Headache: The Hair-Raising Sequel to Bellyache” by Crystal Marcos is about Peter and Lina who have to send Goaltan away and make sure he never comes back. Goaltan is a giant Peblar. He looks like he is made out of pebbles, but he is really a rock candy that has gone bad. He and the Peblars smell putrid. He is mad at Peter and Lina and threatens to destroy all sweets and their town if they don’t become his slaves.
A while back, Peter and Lina had been sucked away in a Special Delivery box to Maple Town where they met the Candonite children Joe (a lemon drop) and Angela (a rainbow chip cookie) and somehow ended up in Goaltan’s lair. Peter, Lina, Joe and Angela escaped Goaltan which made Goaltan very, very mad.
In this book, all the kids are back in Peter’s home town, and Goaltan is terrifying the townspeople. Will the kids learn the secret to subduing Goaltan and the other Peblars?
“Headache: The Hair-Raising Sequel to Bellyache” by Crystal Marcos is the second in the series, and it took me a while to understand what was going on. It seemed like a kind of strange book when I started it, but by the time I got to about the fifth chapter I was hooked. I think a lot of five to seven-year-olds would like this book.
