“Ivy & Bean: No News is Good News” by Annie Barrows is Book 8 in the “Ivy & Bean” chapter books. Ivy and Bean are 10-year-old girls who are always looking for adventure. This time they want the cheese that is coated in red wax so they can be like their friends. They asked their parents for the cheese and they said “No. If you want it you will have to earn the money.” Being the ingenious girls they are, they decided to write a newspaper. So being the detectives they are, they start snooping around the neighborhood getting all kinds of information. The chapters are short and the black and white illustrations add to the voice of the book.
“Ivy & Bean: No News is Good News” by Annie Barrows is the first book I have read about Ivy and Bean. I was surprised at how short some of the chapters were, but I loved how Ivy and Bean were always cooking up something. They wanted something very badly and their parents wouldn’t give it to them and they had to earn money. I do the same thing sometimes- I just want my mom to give me what I want. My Nana and Papa make me do chores to get money to spend. Sometimes that upsets me but I know they are right. Ivy and Bean do things I would do and look for ways to earn money to get what I want.
