“Hello There, We’ve Been Waiting for You!” by Laurie B. Arnold is an easy flowing story about a girl named Madison who is shipped off to live with her shopaholic grandmother in New Mexico due to the sudden and unexpected death of her mother and the departure of her best friend. Based on past experience, Madison already knows she should expect the worst and soon finds out that is exactly what she’s going to get, from her grandmother’s constant nagging about her dressing style, to the soccer-ball-eating dog in the backyard, Madison can’t help but hate her new life.
That was until one day when two strange men arrived on their doorstep with a flat screen TV, claiming it was theirs. And though Madison is suspicious right away, her grandmother waves it off without a second thought and eagerly accepts it, despite the delivery man’s message. Soon after, Madison’s life changes even more as she finds out that the TV is no ordinary TV, but a magical one; one that with a push of a button could zap you into any channel. Not able to resist and wanting to escape her crazy life, Madison decides to give it a try, thus causing her to get into all types of sticky situations and to constantly cross paths with the “crazy” lady next to whom she begins to think she may not be so crazy after all. And as life gets more interesting by the day, Madison is slowly accepting the fact that maybe living there isn’t as bad as she thought it would be.
I enjoyed this book quite a bit and found it to be an enjoyable read. It held my attention all the way through and had me smiling and laughing until the end. And though I would recommend “Hello There, We’ve Been Waiting for You!” by Laurie B. Arnold to younger teens, it would also be a good book for anyone who is looking for something that will keep them entertained until the very end.
