Lodestone Book One: The Sea of Storms
“Lodestone Book One: The Sea of Storms” by Mark Whiteway is the story of five unlikely companions as they quest to find a dangerous weapon that could destroy their world. The land of the Kelanni had always been peaceful until the Prophet came. He took prisoners called tributes and mercilessly put them to work searching for a substance called lodestone that could be used to make powerful and dangerous weapons. But what is his ulterior motive, and can he be stopped?
Shann lived a relatively peaceful life until the Keltar came. They took her parents as tributes for the Prophet so that they could work the remainder of their lives searching for lodestone deposits near the desert fortress of Gort. After Shann went and started work in an inn for her relatives, the Keltar struck again but were attacked by a man dressed as a Keltar. The imposter attacked the leading Keltar but was defeated. As the stranger escaped he shoved a disk made of a mysterious material into Shann’s hand. Later Shann left to pursue the stranger. She soon met him in a neighboring city along with his friend Alondo and learned that the strangers name was Lyall. They came up with a plan to free the tributes being held in Gort. But will their plan succeed or will they fall into the hands of the Prophet?
In the land of the Kelanni, order is kept by the Keltar. These highly dangerous and powerful armed Kelanni serve the Prophet, the ruler of the land. Armed with diamond-bladed staffs, lodestone grenades, and flying capes, these elite troops keep the “peace” and bring the Prophet his tributes. How can they be stopped?
I would recommend this book to people who like action, adventure, and science-fiction. When I first started this book I thought it was fantasy rather than sci-fi. After I read for a while I realized that the book took place on an alien world that had nearly been invaded by humans. The book was full of suspense that would hold on to you until you finished it. “Lodestone Book One: The Sea of Storms” was a great book and I can’t wait to read the next one.
