Dizzy is a dolphin.  He likes performing tricks.  “Dizzy” is written in rhyme.  Throughout “Dizzy,” the dolphin interacts with other animals, and he notices the environment around him.

Parish liked to “read” this book upside-down for some reason.  That was challenging.  “Dizzy” did not hold her attention.  I found it to be a bit drab, also.  I am sure that there are some children that are really excited about dolphins and the ocean.  Parish is not one of them.

“That is a dolphin.”  I point to Dizzy.  She does not respond.   She flips pages.

“Do you like this book?”
“No.”

“Why not?”
“I don’t know.”

“Do you want to keep it or give it away?”
“Give it away.”

I left it on the family room floor for a few days to see if she would pick it up.  She did not.  “Dizzy” is not attention-grabbing.

Older children who like marine life may find “Dizzy” enjoyable.  Most of the words are easy to sound out for beginning readers.  Overall, I do not recommend it.
