I Spy in the Texas Sky
“I Spy in the Texas Sky” by Deborah Ousley Kadair is all about Texas symbols. First there is a little poem about the symbol along with a picture of white clouds sort of in the shape of the thing being described. On the next page there is paragraph describing the State symbol along with a picture of the thing.
The symbols in the book were the Texas flag, Mexican free-tailed bat, prickly pear cactus, monarch butterfly, armadillo, bluebonnet, and mockingbird. My favorite symbol was the mockingbird because I didn’t know it was the State bird. I learned that it is a pretty tough bird.
The pictures in the book were unusual. They looked like collages made out of cut paper, string, foil, and tissue paper. It was kind of hard to tell what some things were.
