Angela, age 12, and Tony, age 13 are best friends.  When they are playing in Angela’s cellar on a rainy day, they discovered embedded in the cellar floor a magical door that leads to the inner world.  The inner world is a magical world that consists of five realms.  Angela and Tony wear magic rings and collect spells from power crystals.  Traveling through the first realm, they collect powers and learn about the inner world with the goal of becoming wizards.  Angela and Tony, along with their guide, Peepo and a talking mouse named Mr. Books, go through a magical journey while dodging the evil rattlesnake, Protok, all the time making their way to the wizard exams.

Full of quirky characters and danger, “The House with the Magic Cellar” will take you on a wild ride through the mystical inner world where wizards reign supreme.   The author’s main point was to illustrate that the children, when thrown into a never before seen world, adapted quickly and successfully by using their quick wits.

“The House with the Magic Cellar” was very well written, and Antonio Garza writes exceptionally.  This book is for readers between the ages of 9 and 14 who are interested in fantasy.  My favorite part of the book was when Tony hustled the hustler for a ton of wizard’s gold.  I liked it because he used a clever trick to trick the trickster.  Another highlight of the book for me was when the Cave People cut off the hand of the mercenary and then fed him to the snow chameleons.  I enjoyed it because it was an unexpected plot twist.

From evil snakes to powerful wizards, “The House with the Magic Cellar” has it all.  I recommend this book to anyone who wants exciting plot twists, fantastic feats and an overall good read.  Antonio Garza knew what he was doing when he wrote “The House with the Magic Cellar”.  I’m looking forward to the next installment, Realm 2.
